Samsung
Galaxy ACE "too many pattern attempts"
The
phone of my wife was locked with a "too many pattern attempts" message (thanks kids!).
On the
screen there was only the option to fill in a gmail account.
And
there lies a problem. She did not know the correct email address anymore and the
password that went with it.
After spending an
hour googling with all kind of option like rebooting, taking out the battery,
null as password, reboot and hold buttons, we were still at the starting point:
Unknown user and/or password (or something like that).
The only
way this phone could get on-line was via WIFI, which of course was turned off.
But....
if you called the phone you could to change that, for as long you did not end
the call.
Just
pull down during the call the connection menu on the top side of the screen. There is the option to turn it on.
So, now we
had internet on the thing.
Not sure
if android caches this kind of passwords, but now it can verify on-line if necessary.
We
checked on the PC installed KIES software and on one of the tabs we saw the correct email address in the header.
All this
time we were using a different one.
Now the password recovery..
In a
browser went to www.google.com and used the
"sign in" button on the top right of the screen. The assumed password did not work so we
used the "recover my password" routine witch was luckily filled in
somewhere in the past.
Followed
the wizard and used the recovery email option. Waited for the email and reset
the password to something else.
From
there on it was quite simple: we used the correct gmail email address and the
new password.
Because
the battery was low it was connected with KIES at that time. Not sure if it
used the WIFI at this point.
I do
think we had some luck solving this and I hope you can resolve your "too
many pattern attempts" problem by the stuff we discovered on the way.
Good
luck!
